Supporting widows in gracefully rebuilding a wealthy life after loss. 💎
When life changes in a heartbeat, so does everything you thought you knew about money.
If you’ve lost your husband, you may find yourself doing things you never imagined would feel this hard.
Opening or closing a bank account.
Sorting through paperwork.
Making decisions about your future.
And somehow, in the middle of heartbreak, the world expects you to think clearly, act quickly, and stay financially composed. 😮💨
But what if you can’t?
What if grief makes everything feel heavy, confusing, and overwhelming?
What if even simple financial tasks bring tears, exhaustion, or shutdown?
This is the space where Serene SunShowers was born.
A place where grief and money are finally allowed to exist together—because in real life, they always do.
And a place where widows are supported not just to survive loss, but to gracefully rebuild a meaningful, stable, and even abundant life after it.
I became a widow in 2022.
Before that, I had worked in financial and accounting roles for two decades. I understood cash-flow, numbers, planning, structure, and decision-making. I was experienced in money. Skilled in logic. Comfortable in financial systems. 💲
And then I experienced something I was wholly unprepared for.
When my husband passed away, I felt lost. Stunned. I cried every day for 3 months straight.
And I found that my grief outweighed my financial knowledge.
Suddenly, I couldn’t think the way I used to.
There was brain fog. Low energy. Emotional triggers everywhere. Waves of grief that would come without warning and take over everything.
Simple financial tasks became emotionally loaded experiences.
Looking at our joint bank account.
Opening the mail for my husband’s estate.
Paying the mortgage.
Each of these moments began and ended with tears, exhaustion, and emotional overwhelm.
Even basic daily tasks—showering, cooking, making sure my shoes matched—took all the energy I had.
And yet, I still had to make major financial decisions that would shape the rest of my life.
Decisions I didn’t want to make without him.
We had plans. A future mapped out together. Five-year goals. Ten-year dreams.
And suddenly, I was being asked to build a life forward—but without the person I had built everything with.
It didn’t feel right. He deserved to be here, enjoying the comfortable life we had built together. Planning our retirement and making our dreams come true.
Instead, I was alone, uncertain, and deeply unsteady.
It felt like I was adrift at sea—riding out tsunamis of grief—and all of it without a lighthouse. 🌊
As I moved through this experience, I also had to interact with financial systems, institutions, and professionals.
Some people were kind, patient, and understanding.
Others were cold, transactional, and detached.
Most had no real understanding of what it feels like to grieve a life-altering loss while being asked to make permanent financial decisions about a future I couldn’t imagine.
And I began to notice something deeper:
Most financial advice requires emotional neutrality.
It depends on clarity.
Logic.
Readiness.
Capacity.
But grief interferes with all of that. Grief is unpredictable and poorly understood.
At the same time, most grief support doesn’t address money at all—despite the fact that financial decisions become unavoidable after loss.
And so widows are often left in a painful gap:
That gap is where overwhelm, isolation, and uncertainty deepen.
And it is exactly where I knew something needed to change. 🌦️
My realization wasn’t one single moment—it was an unfolding truth.
I saw that I wasn’t struggling because I lacked financial knowledge.
I was struggling because grief changes everything—how we think, how we feel, how we decide, and how we relate to money.
And no one was talking about that.
No one was bridging that gap.
But something else also became clear:
I still wanted a life. ⛅
Even in the middle of grief, something in me still wanted more than survival.
I still wanted joy.
I still wanted stability.
I still wanted financial security.
I still wanted a future that felt like mine.
Not a future that erased what I lost—but one that could hold both: the love that was gone, with the life that was still here.
Because I began to understand something quietly powerful:
Grief does not cancel out life.
And life does not cancel out grief.
Both can exist at the same time.
The pain of loss.
And the joy of living.
I also realized something else:
I wasn’t the only one.
There came a point where I realized I had a choice—not about whether I grieved, but about how I lived inside it.
I could gently begin to ask:
“What else is still possible for me?”
I didn’t step into that answer all at once.
It came in small moments.
A decision to eat something nourishing.
A conversation with a friend that brought a small laugh.
A financial decision made with a little more clarity than before.
A moment where I didn’t collapse under everything I was carrying.
And slowly, something began to shift. 🛟
I was still grieving.
But I was also still here.
And being here mattered.
So I chose, in small and imperfect ways, to live.
Serene SunShowers was created to bring grief and money back into the same conversation.
Because grief affects what you do with your money.
And financial security affects how you grieve.
These are not separate experiences—they are deeply intertwined.
As a Widow, Chartered Professional Accountant, and Certified Coach, I bring together lived experience, financial expertise, and emotional support in one place.
This work is not just about managing money.
It’s about helping widows feel safe again.
Safe in their bodies.
Safe in their decisions.
Safe in their financial future.
And supported in their emotional reality while doing it. 🕯️
Through private 1:1 coaching, clients receive a deeply personalized and supportive experience that includes:
This is not a one-size-fits-all approach.
It is a responsive, compassionate space where grief is not treated as an obstacle—but as part of the process. 💗
Over time, something powerful begins to shift.
Clients start to experience:
What once felt overwhelming becomes more manageable.
What once felt isolating becomes supported.
What once felt like survival slowly becomes joyful again.
And eventually, something new begins to emerge:
A life that is no longer only defined by loss. A life full of wisdom and meaningful wealth. 💎
I envision a world where widows are not rushed past their grief.
A world where grief is understood as a normal, human, and powerful process—not something to suppress or bypass.
A world where emotional healing and financial wellbeing are not treated separately, but held together with care.
I believe that when grief is truly allowed to move through us—not avoided or rushed—it can become a pathway to clarity, meaning, and even abundance.
Not in spite of loss.
But in an honest relationship with it.
I envision widows who feel understood, supported, and empowered to design lives that feel deeply meaningful again.
Lives that honour what was lost.
And also honour what can still be created.
A life where widows continue to build on the wealth that was created in their marriage. 💵
